Common questions.

When should I book a newborn session?

Most families reach out in the second trimester. We hold a tentative date for your due window and lock it in once baby arrives — within the first 14 days is ideal for the deep, sleepy frames.

What is the best age for newborn photos?

Five to twelve days old is the sweet spot. Babies are still curled, sleepy and easy to settle into wraps. After about three weeks they are more awake and often more sensitive to reflux and wind, so the session becomes lifestyle-led rather than posed — still beautiful, just a different look.

Can you still photograph an older baby — six weeks or three months?

Yes. We run plenty of sessions with babies past the newborn window. We lean into parent-and-baby holds, wraps, and awake-eyes frames rather than deep posed curls, and older babies often give us the first real smiles.

Is posed newborn photography safe?

Yes — when the photographer is trained. Aline is childcare-qualified with seven years in NSW early-childhood rooms, is trained in newborn posing safety and infant first aid, and is fully insured. Every 'pose' is composited from two safe images and a spotter is always within arm's reach.

How long does a newborn session take?

Allow 120 to 180 minutes. That time is deliberate — it covers feeds, nappy changes, settling and cuddles, so nothing is rushed. You will never be watching the clock.

What do we need to bring or wear?

Almost nothing. The studio wardrobe covers newborn wraps, bonnets and textiles, plus neutral tops and gowns for parents in sizes XS to XXL. Bring nappies, a dummy if you use one, a change of clothes for bub, and anything sentimental you would like in a frame.

What if baby is unsettled on the day?

We work to baby's rhythm. If bub is not settled we start with wraps or family frames and move into the prepared sets when they are ready. Feeds, cuddles and contact naps are built into the booking — we have never run out of time and never had a session that did not deliver.

Can siblings and grandparents be in the photos?

Absolutely, and there is no extra charge. We usually photograph siblings and grandparents first so they can relax or head off, then return to just baby for the quiet posed frames.

Do you photograph newborns at home?

Yes — in-home newborn sessions run across the Northern Beaches at no extra travel cost. We bring lighting, wraps and everything else; you need a room with a window and somewhere to sit.

How much does a newborn photoshoot cost on the Northern Beaches?

Sessions start from $590 + GST, and a Founding Families PLUS session is $389 + GST with 8 hand-retouched digitals while that limited offer lasts. Most families invest between $800 and $1,200 once they add wall art or an album. Fine art 11x14 inch prints are $49 + GST each. Prices are subject to change without prior notice.

When do we see and receive the photos?

Two retouched previews land in your inbox within 24 hours. Within a week we meet by video to choose your favourites, which Aline hand-retouches personally, and to order any prints, canvases or albums — no pressure, no hidden costs.

Where is the studio and is it easy with a newborn?

Studio 11/89 Darley Street, Mona Vale — ground level with on-site parking directly outside, so a pram rolls straight in. The room is heated to 26–28°C, kept private for your session, and there is a quiet corner for feeding and settling.
